The sensors used to take the imagery on the links below were the LASH, the WESCAM and a Handheld Digital Camera. Image data collected on the Airship is processed on-board, transferred to a data fusion processor laptop, and transmitted to a Ground Site Operations Center via a wireless Data Link System. At the Operations Center the new imagery is merged into graphics files that describe the time and location of whale activities. The goal of the project is to distribute Airship generated whale information to interested consumers via the Internet in the earliest time possible. This information can be used to protect whales by reducing the risk of harm by improving the knowledge of their locations and activities.
